This work depicts the chrysanthemum, a flower that throughout much of Europe is associated with mourning, death, and remembrance of those who have passed away.
The marigold also appears, regarded as a spiritual guide for the departed.
Its vivid orange-yellow colour and distinctive fragrance have inspired a beautiful belief for centuries: in Mexico, the petals of the cempasúchil are said to create paths of light, guiding the souls of the dead on their journey home.
