Tears of Fire
This painting grew from an image that returns to my mind every summer, with each wave of wildfires. At its centre, there is room only for darkness, soot, our stunned gaze and flames. Around it, the golden frame symbolises the value of our natural world.
The roe deer, honeybee, Apollo butterfly, Hermann’s tortoise, and black stork appear in the painting: species from the Iberian Peninsula affected by wildfires, some particularly vulnerable.
Alongside them are pine, Arizona cypress, wild rose, aromatic shrubs such as thyme, and the Cartagena rockrose: part of the Iberian Peninsula's vegetation, which also suffers the effects of wildfires.
Selected for the 9th “Ciudad de Torrejón de Ardoz” National Painting Competition, 2026.
