NEO BESTIARIUM
"Neo Bestiarium" is a series of six oil-painted illustrations that reflect on real animals which, for various reasons, have changed and adapted to our times. Some have become domesticated, others have seen their habitats reshaped by tourism, while some are altering their own habits and ways of life.
Each piece offers a visual narrative that intertwines folklore, ethology, and fiction, inviting us to consider how we coexist with other species. Inspired by medieval bestiaries—illustrated zoological compendiums rich in symbolism and moral lessons—Neo Bestiarium offers a contemporary perspective on our relationship with the animal world.
The exhibition takes the form of an installation inspired by the old “cabinets of curiosities,” spaces where, before the creation of museums, discoveries and wonders of the age were collected and displayed.
Since today we consume most information through our phones, "Neo Bestiarium" incorporates QR codes alongside each painting, unlocking the narrated story behind the creatures on display.
